The True Blue 1881 HBCU Student of the Year Program is a national recognition and scholarship initiative that celebrates the academic excellence, leadership, and service of HBCU students across the country.
This competition identifies one outstanding student leader from each participating HBCU and elevates them to the national stage.
How The Program Works

School-Level Competition
A panel of judges selects one Student of the Year from applicants at each HBCU based on:

Academic Performance (GPA & academic progress)

Community Service & Impact
-
Leadership & Personal Story (including a prepared speech)
Each School Winner Receives:

HBCU Student of the Year – School Winner title

$5,000 scholarship

Advancement to regional competition
$5,000 Scholarship Awarded

Regional Competition
School winners advance to one of five national regions, where a distinguished panel of judges selects a Regional Student of the Year.
Each Regional Winner Receives:

Regional HBCU Student of the Year title

$20,000 additional scholarship

Prizes and opportunities provided by corporate sponsors

Recognition at a Regional Awards Luncheon
Regional winners become ambassadors for academic excellence and leadership within their communities.

National Competition
The five regional winners advance to the National HBCU Student of the Year Competition, held at a formal gala in Atlanta, Georgia.
